Port of Marghera, General Sistem Inaugurates One of the Largest Cement Terminals in Europe

VENICE, PORTO MARGHERA – The new cement terminal at Porto Marghera has been inaugurated , an infrastructure for the handling and storage of cement under concession to General Sistem, a company specialized in cement distribution.

The arrival of the first vessel, the Nordanvik, officially marked the start of operations at the terminal, located in the South Industrial Canal of the port on an area of approximately 25,000 square meters known as Ex Abibes. Thanks to an investment of around €20 million by the concessionaire, the infrastructure is equipped with four cement storage silos, each with a capacity of about 5,000 tons, a pneumatic transport line carrying cement from the quay to the silos, and state-of-the-art unloading facilities, including a bagging plant. The terminal currently employs 15 people.

In addition to a fleet of road transport vehicles and batching plants in Padua, Verona, Rovigo, and Mantua, General Sistem aims for an annual handling volume of approximately 250,000–300,000 tons of material at Porto Marghera, with vessels up to 150 meters in length and a total of about 50 calls per year.
