The New Cement Terminal in Marghera Receives Approval from the Services Conference
All the administrations involved in the new General Sistem facility expressed favorable opinions (some with conditions).
The project of General Sistem, based in Padua, to build a new cement terminal in Marghera — first revealed by SHIPPING ITALY — has taken a decisive step forward.
The Port Authority of Venice, which had already included the project in its 2022–2024 Three-Year Operational Plan, has officially declared the positive conclusion of the Services Conference, following the favorable opinions issued by all the administrations consulted, including the Municipality, the Metropolitan City, and the Public Works Department (Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility). Each expressed approval, with more or less specific conditions depending on the case.
The new terminal will rise on the South Industrial Canal, in an area of approximately 25,000 square meters known as Ex Abibes, owned by General Sistem. According to the documents published by the Port Authority, the project provides for the construction of “four cement storage silos, each with a capacity of about 5,000 tons; a pneumatic transport line to move cement from the quay to the storage silos (flat-bottom extractor, fluidizing channels, accessories, etc.); three mixing stations positioned directly above the bulk loading point, each with a receiving tank and an underground weighbridge; three bulk cement loading stations for tanker trucks, each with a receiving tank; a traditional masonry building adjacent to the plant; an underground weighbridge; a 4,400 m² paved area in concrete; a 19,740 m² stabilized draining pavement; and a private parking area (10 spaces) covering 125 m².”
The planned investment amounts to around €20 million, while the projected handling capacity is about 50 vessels per year for a total of 250,000–300,000 tons. This activity is expected to generate a daily traffic flow of approximately 40 trucks.
